Louisville men’s basketball program’s head coach Kenny Payne and his staff have been actively seeking out new players to join their team for the upcoming season since the end of their previous one. The latest player of interest is former Vanderbilt forward Myles Stute, who entered the transfer portal on the first day of its 60-day transfer window. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Louisville has been among the schools that have expressed interest in recruiting him.
Season Highlights & Background
The 6-foot-7, 215-pound junior has been a regular starter for the Commodores over the past two seasons, with his versatility and scoring ability making him a valuable asset on the court.
During the 2022-23 season, Stute had several standout performances, including a season-high 22 points against Texas A&M on January 28th. He also had impressive showings in terms of minutes played, with a season-high of 37 minutes against Temple on November 15th.
Stute’s shooting accuracy has been a particular strength, with his 3-point shooting standing out in particular. In the game against Texas A&M, Stute made an incredible seven 3-point shots, from a total of 14 attempts. This game was also his season-high in field goals made, with a total of 7 out of 15 attempts. In terms of free throws, Stute’s season-high for both free throws made and attempts came against Arkansas on January 14th, where he made all 8 of his attempts.
Stute is not just a scorer, however, as his rebounding and assists numbers demonstrate. He had a season-high of 11 rebounds against Southern Miss on November 11th, and had three assists in the game against Arkansas on January 14th. Stute also contributed defensively, with a season-high of three steals against Temple on November 15th, and one block against Auburn on February 18th.
Stute’s sophomore season was equally impressive, with his shooting efficiency standing out in particular. He put up comparable numbers in terms of points and rebounds, with 8.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, but shot an impressive 44.8 percent overall and 43.2 percent on 3-pointers. His accuracy from beyond the arc led the SEC and would have placed him in the top ten nationally if he had qualified.
Stute’s impressive performance has made him a highly sought-after prospect, with Louisville being one of several programs to express interest in the versatile forward. As the transfer portal continues to play a major role in college basketball, it will be interesting to see where Stute ultimately lands for the upcoming season.
