On Monday, Kentucky men’s basketball head coach John Calipari announced the signing of Jordan Burks, who will join the Wildcats as a forward for the 2023-2024 season. Burks, a talented 6-foot-9 prospect from Decatur, Alabama, is a significant addition to the top-ranked recruiting class of 2023-2024. During the 2022-2023 season, he led the Overtime Elite league with an average of 27.1 points per game and contributed 7.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals every game.
Burks indicated that he was drawn to Kentucky because of the school’s environment and culture and its history of molding players into professionals who compete for championships every year. Burks wants to improve his game under the guidance of coach Calipari and help the Wildcats win a national championship. He also aims to build strong bonds with his teammates on and off the court.
Coach Calipari praised Burks’s potential, indicating that the forward has excellent size and scoring abilities, which, paired with his length, allow him to play multiple positions. Burks has already challenged himself against the best of the best and is looking forward to improving under Coach Calipari’s tutelage. Burks’s high school career began at Heritage Christian in his hometown and Southern California Academy in California before joining the Overtime Elite league.
Kentucky’s men’s basketball team has a storied history of success, winning eight national championships and appearing in the men’s NCAA tournament 60 times. The school’s fan base, known as the “Big Blue Nation,” supports the team relentlessly in both home and away games. The school has produced several NBA legends, including Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, and John Wall, to name a few. It’s no surprise that Burks was eager to join the team given its rich basketball culture.
