The University of Kentucky track and field program will be splitting their team into four different squads this week as they compete in both the Corky Classic and Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday, January 19th, and Saturday, January 20th. The jumps and sprint squads will be heading to Texas Tech for the Corky Classic, while the distance and throws squads will be travelling to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee for the Vanderbilt Invitational.
At the Corky Classic, the Wildcats will be facing tough competition from teams such as Baylor, Georgia Tech, and TCU. The events will kick off on Friday at 7 p.m. ET with the Men’s Pole Vault, and continue on Saturday with the Women’s 200m “B” sections.
Meanwhile, at the Vanderbilt Invitational, the Wildcats will be up against teams such as Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. The events will begin on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET with the Men’s Weight Throw, and continue on Saturday with events such as the Men’s Shot Put Open and the Women’s Mile Run.
The Wildcats currently have 18 student-athletes in six events who would qualify for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships. The team will be looking to improve on their performances from the previous meets and secure their spots in the championships.
In the TFRRS Top-20 Rankings, the Wildcats have several athletes who are ranked among the top in the nation in their respective events. Some of these athletes include Kennedy Lightner in the 200 Meters, Luke Brown in the Triple Jump, and Charity Hufnagel in the High Jump.
Overall, it promises to be an exciting weekend for the University of Kentucky track and field team as they compete in both the Corky Classic and Vanderbilt Invitational. The team will be looking to showcase their skills and continue their strong performances this season.
