The University of Kentucky track and field program is headed to Fayetteville this week for the Razorback Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas. The competition will kick off on Friday, January 26 at 12:45 p.m. ET with the women’s pentathlon 60-meter hurdles. The events on Saturday will begin at 11:15 a.m. ET with the women’s 60-meter dash qualifying.
The Wildcats will be facing tough competition, going up against schools such as Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Texas A&M. The importance of this meet cannot be understated, as performances at this event could impact the athletes’ chances of qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Currently, the Kentucky team has 18 student-athletes who are in contention to qualify for the championships based on their performances in the three meets leading up to this event.
In terms of rankings, some notable performances from Kentucky athletes include Keaton Daniel, who is currently ranked first in the men’s pole vault with a height of 19’0.25″, and Luke Brown, who holds the top spot in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 55’1.5″. On the women’s side, Charity Hufnagel is ranked eighth in the high jump with a height of 6’0.75″, and Payton Phillips is ranked tenth in the pole vault with a height of 14’0″.
The event lineup for the Razorback Invitational is subject to change, but some of the events that fans can look forward to include the women’s weight throw, men’s long jump, women’s pole vault, and women’s 3000m. The final day of competition on Saturday will feature events such as the women’s and men’s 60m dash qualifying, women’s and men’s 60m hurdles, and the women’s and men’s 4x400m relay.
