The University of Kentucky track and field program is gearing up to host their first meet of 2024, the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet. Taking place on January 12-13 in Louisville, Kentucky, the meet will be held at the Norton Sports & Learning Center.
The competition kicks off on Friday, January 12 at noon with the Men’s and Women’s High Jump, followed by running events starting at 3 p.m. with the Women’s 60-meter dash first round. On Saturday, events will begin at 11 a.m. with the Men’s Pole Vault and Men’s and Women’s Shot Put. Running events for the day will commence at 12 p.m. with the Women’s 60-meter dash semifinals.
The University of Kentucky Wildcats will be facing tough competition from Alabama State, Butler, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Howard, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Miami (Ohio), Ohio State, Texas, and Tulane.
The meet is named in honor of Rod McCravy, a former UK track athlete who tragically passed away at the age of 19 in 1987. McCravy was known for his leadership on the track, as well as his impact off the field. He was described as a dedicated athlete, a conscientious student, a cherished friend, and an outstanding human being.
The Wildcats currently have 17 student-athletes who have a chance to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships. The top 16 individuals or top-12 relay teams in the country during the indoor season will earn a spot.
The Rod McCravy Memorial Meet is an opportunity for the UK track and field community to remember McCravy and the positive influence he had on everyone who knew him.
