Lady Cards Move On To Ole Miss | Sweet 16 Bound | Punish Texas

by Caitlyn Barnes

Louisville women’s basketball team has continued their journey in the NCAA Tournament with an impressive victory over the fourth-seeded Texas team. The fifth-seeded Cardinals secured their place in the Sweet Sixteen by defeating the Longhorns with a score of 73-51 at the Moody Center. This is the sixth consecutive time the Cardinals have made it to the Sweet Sixteen under the leadership of their head coach, Jeff Walz. They have made it to the tournament for the 12th time overall in his tenure.

Louisville’s victory against Texas marked the second time that the Cardinals have beaten Texas during the 2022-23 season. They previously won against the Longhorns on November 20, 2022, during the regular season. During that game, the Cardinals won 71-63 in the Bahamas as part of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Following their victory against Texas, the Cardinals are now set to play against Ole Miss at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. Ole Miss is ranked at number 8 and recently defeated the top-seeded Stanford team. The game is scheduled for Friday, March 24th, but the time and television designation for the game have not been determined yet.

The Cardinals once again dominated the game with a stellar performance from junior guard, Hailey Van Lith. She had a game high 21 points and made eight out of 15 shots. This was her sixth time scoring 20 or more points in the NCAA Tournament appearances in her last seven games. Morgan Jones also added 10 points to the scoreboard, while Mykasa Robinson and Chrislyn Carr had nine points each. In total, nine players scored for the Cardinals in the game.

The Cardinals exploited their height advantage against the Longhorns, scoring 38 points in the paint and shooting 46.9% from the field, despite making only three out of 13 attempts from the three-point range. They also out-rebounded Texas with a score of 42-34, and in the second half, they scored 24 rebounds against Texas’ 13.

Texas only managed to shoot 34.5% during the game, and their three-point attempts were unsuccessful, with only one successful shot out of 10 attempts. Additionally, they lost possession of the ball 13 times and only managed to score seven out of 22 layups.
