Lady Cats Fall Against Tennessee In SEC Tourney

In what was a nice winning streak in the SEC Tournament, the Lady Cats fall in the to the Lady Vols of Tennessee.  But, the Cats fought hard and put in a great battle against the number 3 seed Volunteers. 

Grad-guard Robyn Benton led the way with 20 points while Maddie Sherr knocked down 13 with an impressive defensive effort of 3 blocked shots and four steals to go along with two boards. 

The Lady Cats had a 6 game win streak snapped running since last years SEC Title run last year.  This on the heels of beating Florida and Alabama thus far in the 2023 SEC tournament. 

The Lady Vols came out on fire and got out to a quick 11-2 lead.  At the end of the first quarter the Lady Cats were down 27-17.  

The Lady Vols continued their run into the second quarter while the Lady Cats went cold, going 1 for 8 to start the second quarter.  But the Lady Cats kept fighting hard and got within 8 by the end of the half, 38-30.

The Lady Cats came out in the third quarter putting pressure on the Lady Vols and were able to create some UT turnovers.  Towards the end of the 3rd quarter the Lady Cats went on a 6-0 run and closed the gap to three.  

Things didn’t get much better in the fourth quarter with the Lady Vols going on a 10-4 run to widen the gap to 10.  

Tennessee’s Jackson scored a whopping 34 points to lead all scorers.  The Lady Vols out rebounded the Lady Cats 43-24 and 12 steals.  The Lady Vols had a turnover frenzy on its hands with 22 total for the game.  But that still wasn’t enough for the Lady Cats to bring home the win.  

The final score was 80-71 and puts the Lady Cats record on the season at 12-19.
