The Louisville Cardinals fell flat on Senior Night losing 71-54 in what attendees in YUM Center were hoping would be a win on a close out to a season with few high points. The Cards hit a slump as they tried to rally and couldn’t get shots to fall and gave up too many second chance points.
The Cardinals (4-26, 2-17 ACC) cut the the deficit to 3 with around nine minutes to go but then Virginia Tech went on a 14-0 run to stomp out the Cards run.
The Cards were down only 8 at half-time but the Hokies came out firing in the second half.
The only three pointers of the night came from El Ellis and JJ Traynor as they cut the lead to 3 at 50-47. Inside the YUM Center it felt like the Cards were going to take the lead and the crowd was feeling it.
The drought continued and Louisville only scored 7 points over the final 9 minutes. The Cards also had 12 turnovers which lead to 18 points for the Hokies.
Mike James had a solid night with 14 points and El Ellis had 14 as well. Traynor added 9 points, 6 boards and two blocks.
The Cards head to #13/12 Virginia on Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
