Louisville Sends Six Athletes to NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships

Six athletes from the University of Louisville track and field teams are gearing up to compete in the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., from March 10-11. The championship event will take place at the Albuquerque Convention Center, and the Louisville athletes will be looking to make their mark on the national stage.

The six Louisville qualifiers are Trey Allen, Cameron Miller, Synclair Savage, Brion Stephens, Sterling Warner-Savage, and Aliyah Welter. These talented athletes have earned the opportunity to represent their university at the highest level of collegiate indoor track and field competition.

Head coach Dale Cowper expressed his excitement for the upcoming competition and his confidence in his team’s ability to perform at a high level. “The NCAA Championships are one of the most exciting opportunities a student-athlete encounters during their respective collegiate career,” Cowper said. “I’m looking forward to seeing these six represent UofL at the highest level this weekend in Albuquerque.”

Fans who can’t make it to Albuquerque to watch the championships in person will still be able to catch all the action via live stream on ESPN+. In addition, the official NCAA Track and Field social channels will provide live updates throughout the competition. After the live broadcast concludes each day, video of the top events will be posted on the NCAA Championships YouTube channel.

Friday’s competition for the Cardinals will kick off with the women’s field events, beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET. Aliyah Welter will be the first Louisville athlete to compete, participating in the women’s pole vault. Welter currently stands 11th nationally with a mark of 4.35m (14-3.25) at the ACC Indoor Championships.

The women’s long jump will follow at 6:00 p.m. and will feature Synclair Savage, who enters the meet seeded seventh with a school record mark of 6.52m (21-4.75) at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. Savage will be looking to improve upon her impressive performance at the ACC Championships and make a name for herself on the national stage.

The action will then move to the track, with Sterling Warner-Savage toeing the line in the men’s 60m preliminaries at 9:15 p.m. Warner-Savage set a new school record with a time of 6.55 at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, which ties him for the sixth-fastest time this season. The men’s 200m preliminaries will begin at 10:25 p.m., and Cameron Miller will be competing in this event. Miller enters the competition with a time of 20.27 at the ACC Indoor Championships, which stands as the nation’s fastest time at sea level this season and ties him for second-fastest in the nation with converted times.

Warner-Savage and Miller will be aiming to advance to Saturday’s finals in their respective events by placing in the top eight in the preliminary round. The 60m finals will take place at 9:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, and the 200m finals will follow at 9:50 p.m. ET.

Saturday’s competition will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET with the men’s high jump, an event in which Louisville has multiple athletes competing. Trey Allen currently holds the second-highest mark in the nation with his clearance of 2.27m (7-5.25) at the Commonwealth College Opener, which set a new program record. Brion Stephens earned the silver medal at the ACC Indoor Championships, finishing second to Allen with a Louisville freshman record height of 2.21m (7-3), he’s tied for 9th nationally.
