The University of Louisville men’s basketball program has signed Tre White as part of their 2023-24 roster. White, a 6-foot-7 guard-forward, transferred from the University of Southern California (USC), where he had a successful freshman year. He has three eligibility years remaining with the Cardinals.
UofL head coach Kenny Payne expressed his excitement at welcoming White to the team. According to Payne: “Tre is a versatile player who will make a tremendous impact on our program. He’s a high-character, hard-working young man who knows what he wants from the game and is willing to put the time into it. He will bring a winning spirit to Louisville that the fan base will love.”
White played in 33 games for USC in the 2022-23 season and started 29 of those games. He earned a place on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, averaging 9.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. He also achieved a field goal percentage of 47.4%. White’s season-high of 22 points came when USC played against Washington on Feb. 4.
Before joining the USC team, White had a successful career at Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif. In his senior year, he averaged 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, leading his team to a 26-6 record and upsetting the No. 1 team in the country during the GEICO High School Basketball National Tournament.
The addition of White to the Louisville roster is expected to add depth and experience to the team, which has struggled in recent years. Fans of the Cardinals are hopeful that White will help turn the team’s fortunes around and lead them to success in the coming seasons.
