In the Ohio State Fall Invitational, the Louisville Cardinals’ men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams ended the first day of finals in third place. The Cardinal men earned 579.5 points, trailing behind Indiana (803) and Ohio State (760). On the women’s side, Louisville scored 646 points, with Ohio State (791) and Indiana (711) in the lead.
The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 12 in the men’s category and No. 3 in the women’s category. They are competing against the nationally ranked Buckeyes, as well as teams from Indiana, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Ohio University, Cal, and Kenyon.
The tournament will span three days, starting at 9:30am each day. In the morning, preliminary rounds will be conducted in meters, followed by finals in yards at 5:30 ET.
During the first day of competition, the Cardinals’ A 200 Free Relay secured a third-place finish with a time of 1:27.32. The team consisted of Gabi Albiero, Christiana Regenauer, Julia Dennis, and Ella Welch. The B Relay finished fourth with a time of 1:28.77. The men’s A 200 Free Relay came fifth with a time of 1:18.38.
In the 500 free event, Indiana’s Anna Peplowski won with a time of 4:38.29, while Summer Cardwell was the fastest Cardinal, finishing eighth with a time of 4:49.62. On the men’s side, Tomas Navikonis from Ohio State won with a time of 4:15.65. Ilia Sibirtsev secured third place with a time of 4:16.05 for Louisville.
In the 200 IM, Josie Panitz from Ohio State won with a time of 1:56.18 on the women’s side, with Abby Hay from Louisville coming in a close second with a time of 1:56.79. Tristan Jankovics from Ohio State won the men’s event with a time of 1:42.76, while Jackson Millard was the top Cardinal, finishing sixth with a time of 1:45.21.
Indiana’s Kristina Paegle won the women’s 50 freestyle with a time of 21.76, followed by Gabi Albiero from Louisville at second place with a time of 21.92. Chris Guiliano from Notre Dame took top honors in the men’s 50 freestyle with a time of 18.84, while Yassin Hossam from Louisville finished in 11th place with a time of 19.60.
Ohio State claimed the victory in both the women’s and men’s 400 Medley Relay events. The Louisville women’s A-Relay finished fourth with a time of 3:31.82, while the men’s team came in sixth with a time of 3:10.38.
The tournament will continue with a variety of events on the second and third days, including the 200 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly, 400 Individual Medley, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Freestyle Relay, 1-Meter Dive, 3-Meter Dive, 1650 Free, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Free Relay, and Platform Dive.
