Louisville Cardinals guard Morgan Jones has been a key contributor in the team’s successful 2022-23 campaign. The graduate student, who hails from Jonesboro, Georgia, has put up impressive numbers on both ends of the floor, helping her team secure wins against top-ranked opponents.
Jones recorded nine points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in the victory over #11/14 North Carolina. She then led the Cardinals with 15 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in the win against Wake Forest. In the game against #20/18 NC State, she contributed 13 points, five rebounds, two steals, and one block.
Jones had a standout performance in the road win over Florida State, scoring 25 points on 9-of-10 shooting, grabbing 10 rebounds, and adding three blocks. This was her first double-double with the Cardinals and the eighth of her career. She also set season-best marks with the 25 points and 10 rebounds.
In the game against #13 Virginia Tech, Jones tied her season high with eight rebounds and set a new season high with 19 points. She also had a team-best nine rebounds against Pitt, to go along with seven points, two assists, and one steal. Against Georgia Tech, she led the team with three steals, while contributing eight points, four rebounds, one assist, and one block.
Jones continued to put up impressive numbers in the following games, tallying 15 points and seven rebounds in the win against Syracuse, 10 points, five assists, two blocks, and one steal in the road win over DePaul, and eight points, five rebounds, and two blocks in the win against Bellarmine.
She had a stellar performance against Kentucky, recording 12 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks, with her seven offensive rebounds being the most by a Cardinal player this season. Jones also had a career night against SIUE, scoring 17 points, dishing out four assists, and setting a career-high with eight steals, which is tied for the most by an ACC player this season.
Jones scored 15 points in both the games against #4/5 Ohio State and Longwood. She also had a season-high four assists against Longwood, while hailing in six rebounds against Ohio State.
Jones had a fantastic performance against #3/5 Texas, scoring a season-high 18 points on eight field goals made. She was also named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List, Naismith Award Women’s Watch List, and Preseason All-ACC. Additionally, she was included in the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, recognizing the best small forwards in women’s college basketball.
