Louisville Track and Field teams continued their impressive performances at the NCAA East Region Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Florida on the second day of the competition. On Thursday, Synclair Savage and Aliyah Welter secured two more spots in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Louisville’s women’s team began the night with Synclair Savage finishing ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.24m (20-5.75) on her first attempt, earning her a second consecutive trip to the outdoor national championship in the same event. Aliyah Welter also followed suit, securing her place in the women’s pole vault. She finished with a clearance of 4.12m (13-6.25), which tied her for 11th place and sent her to the NCAA championships for the third consecutive spring. Louisville’s redshirt senior has become the first Cardinal to achieve this in three consecutive seasons since Emmonnie Henderson competed at nationals in both the women’s shot put and discus throw every year from 2015-2017.
The women’s 400m hurdles featured Katie Martin, who moved to Saturday’s quarterfinals after clocking a time of 57.79. By finishing fourth in her heat, she clinched 12th place overall among competitors in the first round. The competition came to an end for the night on the track.
The men’s competition will conclude on Friday, with eight individuals and a pair of relays set to compete for Louisville. The first event will feature Bryan Hudson and Adar Sheere in the men’s discus throw at 1:00 p.m. ET. ESPN+ will be streaming the day’s events live from 5:00 p.m. The men’s 4x100m relay gets underway at the beginning of the stream.
