Top 7 Women's Transfer Portal Prospects

Last season, over 1,100 women’s basketball players used the transfer portal, with some of these players helping take their new teams to the next level.

Angel Reese is one such player who used the transfer portal to go from Maryland to LSU. She became an AP All-American First Team selection and helped LSU reach the Final Four. The Cavinder twins transferred to Miami, boosting their profiles for NIL and helping the Canes reach their first-ever Elite Eight. Another notable transfer was Taylor Soule, who moved from Boston College to Virginia Tech within her conference and helped the Hokies win their first-ever ACC tournament title.

The NCAA’s COVID-era ruling has made the transfer portal more active by giving anyone who played in the 2020-21 season an extra year of eligibility, resulting in an influx of experienced players into the transfer portal.

Here are some of the best players currently in the transfer portal:

Kaitlyn Davis is a 6-foot-1 forward who was a unanimous All-Ivy League First Team selection. She averaged 13.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game for Columbia, which narrowly missed the NCAA tournament field.

Maria Gakdeng is one of the top inside defenders in the ACC and can help any team improve their rim protection. She averaged 1.8 blocks per game, which was third in the conference, while playing for Boston College.

Destinee Wells was a three-year starter at Belmont and has two years of eligibility remaining. This season, her 3-point shooting percentage improved from 30.3 percent last season to 45.5 percent this season.

Shayeann Day-Wilson was the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022 and led the Blue Devils in scoring and passing with 12.7 points and 3.7 assists per game last season. This year, her playing time and shot attempts declined.

Kennedy Todd-Williams is a versatile and super-athletic guard who was the only Tar Heel to feature in all 33 games this season. She was second on the team in scoring and third in rebounding, averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as UNC advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Kennedy Fauntleroy was one of the top-75 recruits in last year’s class and was a bright spot on a struggling Georgetown team that went just 6-14 in Big East play and fired head coach James Howard.

Lexi Donarski has been a double-digit scorer and starter for three seasons for Iowa State. She started in all 95 games she’s featured in and averaged 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over her career there while shooting 36.4 percent from 3-point land.

All of these players have the potential to make a significant impact on their new teams and help them reach new heights. The transfer portal has become a vital tool for teams to improve their rosters and compete at the highest level.
