Travis Perry, a four-star shooting guard from Lyon County, set a new school record with 61 points in a game against Dawson Springs on Thursday night. The game was attended by Kentucky head coach John Calipari and assistant coach KT Turner, who were watching from the sidelines. Perry received a scholarship offer from Kentucky last June, and the coaches congratulated him on his performance during and after the game. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association record is only 178 points for Perry.
Perry is considered the top-ranked junior from Kentucky according to some reports. He holds additional offers from Creighton, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Indiana, Purdue, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Michigan, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Virginia. Perry has recently taken visits to several of these schools, including Ole Miss, Indiana, Michigan, and Purdue.
Perry has been scoring for Lyon County since his seventh-grade season with the program. He leads the state in threes made per game at 4.1, and his 88.3 shooting percentage from the free-throw line is top five in the state. Lyon County, ranked fifth in KSR’s latest high school rankings, will take on Livingston Central in the 5th District Tournament on Tuesday.
Will Coach Cal let this homegrown Kentucky athlete slip through his hands? With a stellar recruiting class coming in next year only time will tell if the Kentucky Coach will scoop Perry up for the Kentucky Wildcats Roster for 2023-2024 season. Somewhere down the road could we see Reed Sheppard and Travis Perry on the same roster?
