UofL's Petrashov Claims Impressive All-American Title in Breaststroke at NCAA Championships

In a thrilling three days of competition at the 2023 NCAA Championships, the University of Louisville men’s swimming and diving team has managed to secure 11th position in the overall standings. The team’s position got a significant boost, thanks to a remarkable top-three finish by Denis Petrashov, who broke school and ACC records in the 100 breast and achieved first-team All-American honors.

Petrashov’s impressive performance saw him finishing third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 50.78, reducing .34 from his preliminary time. The junior from Bishteck, Kyrgystan, was seeded eighth, but managed to improve five spots to claim a well-deserved podium finish. Despite Petrashov’s extraordinary efforts, the race was won by Minnesota’s Max McHugh, who touched in 50.00.

In the 400 medley relay, Charlie Crush, Denis Petrashov, Dalton Lowe, and Michael Eastman clocked a combined time of 3:03.67. Although the team’s performance was impressive, they were disqualified. The event was eventually won by the University of Florida, who set an NCAA record time of 2:58.32.
