The Atlantic Coast Conference made an exciting announcement today, revealing the 2023 All-ACC Academic Football Team. This year, the University of Louisville dominated the list with a record-breaking 23 honorees. This accomplishment is truly remarkable and demonstrates the dedication these student-athletes have to both their sport and their education.
Among the 23 honorees, nine UofL student-athletes achieved Academic Team status for the second time in their career. This includes notable players like wide receiver Chris Bell, defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte, offensive lineman Michael Gonzalez, center Bryan Hudson, long snapper Shai Kochav, tight end Josh Lifson, defensive lineman Ramon Puryear, defensive lineman Mason Reiger, and placekicker Brock Travelstead. These players have consistently shown their commitment to academic excellence, and this recognition highlights their hard work on and off the field.
In addition, there were several first-time honorees on the Louisville team. Linebacker Stanquan Clark, wide receiver Kevin Coleman, offensive lineman Austin Collins, cornerback Derrick Edwards, offensive lineman John Paul Flores, linebacker Gilbert Frierson, running back Isaac Guerendo, defensive lineman Stephen Herron, punter Brady Hodges, wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, tight end Nate Kurisky, offensive lineman Eric Miller, quarterback Jack Plummer, and running back Maurice Turner were all recognized as Academic Team members for the first time. This is a significant accomplishment for these players and a testament to their dedication to their studies.
Two players, Eric Miller and Ashton Gillotte, received additional accolades as they were also named Academic All-Americans. This is a tremendous honor and reflects their exceptional academic performance. To be selected for the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must meet certain requirements. They must maintain a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average throughout their academic career. Additionally, they must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests. These criteria ensure that the honorees are not only exceptional athletes but also outstanding students.
