MIAMI, Fla. – In a thrilling matchup, the University of Louisville football team secured their spot in the ACC Championship with a hard-fought 38-31 victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium.
With this win, the Cardinals improved to an impressive 10-1 overall record and 7-1 in the ACC standings. Louisville displayed their offensive firepower, racking up a total of 470 yards, including 308 through the air and 162 on the ground.
Quarterback Jack Plummer had a standout performance, completing 24 of 37 passes for 308 yards and 3 touchdowns. Meanwhile, running back Isaac Guerendo led the ground attack with 93 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Defensively, Devin Neal and Cam’Ron Kelly were impact players, combining for 15 tackles.
The game started with a bang as both teams traded touchdowns in the opening quarter. Plummer connected with Nate Kurisky for a score, and Guerendo added another touchdown on the ground for the Cardinals.
Moving into the second quarter, each team added one more touchdown to their tally. Offensive lineman Trevonte Sylvester even made an unlikely catch for a one-yard touchdown just before halftime. However, the Cardinals went into the break trailing 21-20 after a blocked extra point.
Coming out strong in the second half, Louisville managed a field goal, but the Hurricanes retaliated with a touchdown to take a 28-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, the Cardinals refused to back down. Evan Conley ran a touchdown in early in the final quarter, only for Miami to tie the game at 31 with a 51-yard field goal.
With the game hanging in the balance, Plummer connected with Kevin Coleman for a 58-yard touchdown down the sideline, ultimately sealing the 38-31 victory for the Cardinals.
After the game, Louisville’s head coach Jeff Brohm expressed his pride in the team’s performance: “First, I’m really proud of our football team and coaches. This was a big win… A lot of guys stepped up and made plays, so it’s just a great feeling to come down and beat Miami. I’m really proud of our football team.”
Looking ahead, the Cardinals will face their rivalry matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, November 25. The network and kickoff time for the game are yet to be determined.
