Cardinals Set to Host PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational

by

The University of Louisville’s track and field teams are getting ready to host their only indoor meet of the season, the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. The two-day event, which will take place on January 26-27 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, is one of only four meets in the United States and the only one hosted by a university to be part of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour.

The World Athletics Indoor Tour, established in 2016, aims to raise the profile of indoor track and field by providing high-level competition outside of World Championship events. The PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational is classified as a bronze-level event on the tour, making it a great opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills.

The meet will kick off at 10:00 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday, with track and field events happening simultaneously. The women’s pentathlon will take place on Friday, while the men’s heptathlon will be spread out over the two days. Spectators can attend the meet for a fee of $10, with parking available on site for an additional $5 charge. More information about the meet, including a detailed schedule of events, can be found on the university’s official website.

Over 25 schools will be participating in the meet, including seven Power Five conference members. The event will also provide an opportunity for professional athletes to compete unattached.

The Louisville men’s team goes into the meet with a No. 22 ranking in the USTFCCCA National Ratings Index. This will be a chance for them to prove themselves against three other ranked teams, with the top-ranked men’s team from Texas Tech leading the pack.

There are currently three Cardinals who have qualified for the NCAA Championships, and they will all be competing at the meet. Trey Allen, who leads the nation in the men’s high jump, will be aiming to continue his impressive performance. Jake Burkey and Jeremiah Willis also hold top-15 marks nationally in the men’s long jump.
