Sahvir Wheeler is scheduled to make a comeback for the Kentucky Wildcats in their game against the Providence Friars on Friday evening during the NCAA Tournament Round of 64. Kentucky posted a video on Wednesday evening showing Wheeler boarding the plane with the Wildcats for Greensboro.
Wheeler also met with the media on Thursday to discuss Friday’s game against Providence, indicating that he plans to play. However, head coach John Calipari was less certain about Wheeler’s status, stating that he wants to ensure he is at 100% and not 80% before allowing him to play. Nonetheless, it would be unexpected if Wheeler is unable to participate on Friday.
While the extent of his playtime is uncertain, having him available will be crucial, especially if Cason Wallace experiences any injuries or foul trouble. With Wallace dealing with his own minor injuries this season, Wheeler’s presence on the court could be significant for Kentucky to secure multiple victories in the Big Dance.
Wheeler has been absent from the Wildcats rotation since February 4th against Florida.
