The University of Louisville football team is gearing up for their upcoming game against USC on Wednesday, December 27th at 8 p.m. at Petco Park in San Diego, California. The action will be called by Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt, and Jenny Taft for Fox.
This game marks the first-ever meeting between USC and Louisville on the football field. Head coach Jeff Brohm expressed his excitement for the upcoming match, stating, “We are excited to take on USC on Wednesday night. For our football team to go against such a great team, it’s a great chance for our team to showcase what we are all about. Our guys are excited to get back on the field.”
The Cardinals arrived in San Diego on Saturday and have been diligently preparing at Mesa College for the past few days in anticipation of their 26th bowl appearance.
In their previous game, Louisville held FSU to just 219 yards of total offense, with only 55 yards through the air. However, they did give up three field goals and a two-yard touchdown. The Cardinals, known for their potent offense, were limited to a season-low 188 yards of total offense in this loss – the first time they have been held under 200 yards of offense since 2010.
Defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte has been recognized for his outstanding performance this season, earning All-American honors from The Athletic and Sports Illustrated. Gillotte recorded an impressive 11.0 sacks, the most by a UofL player since 2015. He also tallied a team-high 14.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles, earning himself a first team All-ACC selection.
Louisville, under head coach Jeff Brohm, is making their third-straight bowl appearance. They have a 12-12-1 all-time record during the bowl season and have won two of their last three bowl games.
This will be the Cardinals’ first appearance in the Holiday Bowl, and their first bowl game in the state of California since 1970. Louisville is aiming for their first 11-win season since 2013.
