In a thrilling matchup between Louisville and Southern California, it was the Trojans who came out on top with a 42-28 victory. Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm spoke after the game about his team’s performance and the factors that led to their defeat.
Brohm acknowledged that his team had some chances in the second half to convert plays and get back in the game, but they were unable to make it work. He also mentioned that all three segments of the team – defense, offense, and special teams – were beaten by USC, and that is ultimately why they lost.
When asked about the punt block and whether he considered changing the game plan to take more shots downfield, Brohm explained that they did attempt some deep passes early on but weren’t successful. He emphasized the importance of sticking to what was working and getting points on the board.
In terms of building depth in the program, Brohm believes there is still work to be done. He stressed the need for players to have a strong desire to win and a commitment to putting in the necessary work to compete against elite teams consistently. He also mentioned the importance of coaches being committed and putting together the best plan.
One standout performer for Louisville was running back Isaac Guerendo. Brohm praised Guerendo’s physicality, downhill running style, and overall talent, mentioning that he had flourished in their offense and played a crucial role in scoring points.
When it came to the defensive matchups, Brohm admitted that his secondary had not had their best day. He credited USC’s receivers for making great plays, but also discussed the need for improvement and better positioning from his coaching staff.
Defensive back Quincy Riley and linebacker Jaylin Alderman echoed similar sentiments about the defensive struggles, acknowledging that USC’s receivers made more one-on-one plays than they did.
Guerendo spoke about using the disappointing end of the season as fuel for the next year, while also recognizing that a 10-win season was a significant accomplishment.
Quarterback Jack Plummer addressed his finger injury, explaining that while it was painful, it did not significantly affect his throwing ability. He also mentioned that USC’s success in scoring touchdowns was simply a matter of their receivers making plays.
Plummer also discussed the team’s 10-1 record and the tough end to the season, acknowledging that it was a difficult way for the seniors to finish their college careers. However, he highlighted the need to learn from their mistakes and use the experience as motivation to improve in the future.
