Louisville men’s basketball program is making moves in roster management since their season ended last week. Head coach Kenny Payne is eyeing former Bryant guard Charles Pride, who recently announced his decision to transfer. Several other schools, including Arkansas, Cincinnati, SMU, Loyola Chicago, and others have also reached out to Pride.
Pride is one of the most accomplished players in Bryant’s history since the school made the transition to Division I in 2008. Over his four-year career, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard is the fourth-leading scorer (1,528), runner-up in rebounds (750), sixth in assists (250), and the leader in steals (144) in the Bulldogs’ D1 history. Even during his senior year when Bryant transitioned to the America East Conference, Pride remained effective with an average of 14.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals over 29 games played, with 45.3 percent field goal shooting and 37.0 percent on three-point attempts.
The Louisville Cardinals had a disappointing 4-28 season in Payne’s first year, so hitting the transfer portal hard was a priority for the team. They have already identified several transfer targets, including former VMI guard Sean Conway, former Vanderbilt forward Myles Stute, and former Illinois guard Skyy Clark, who visited the team for an official visit and has made a commitment.
In addition to their pursuit of transfer players, the Louisville team has also seen some departures from their roster. Four players have entered the transfer portal, including freshman Kamari Lands, freshman forward Devin Rea, freshman guard Fabio Basili, and senior forward Sydney Curry. As the team gears up for the 2023-24 season, roster management will continue to be a critical aspect of their preparations.
