In a remarkable achievement, University of Louisville football players Eric Miller and Ashton Gillotte have been named first team Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Communicators. This marks the first time since 2019 that the university has had Academic All-Americans, with Ean Pfiefer being the last player to receive the honor.
Miller and Gillotte were placed on the national ballot after earning all-district recognition in May. To be eligible for the initial district ballot, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, be at least a sophomore academically, and be a starter or key reserve on their respective team.
Miller, a first-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and All-District selection, graduated in December of 2021 with a degree in management. He has previously been honored as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient and a member of the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. Miller also earned a certificate in the distilled spirits program, achieving a perfect mark.
On the field, Miller started all 14 games for the Cardinals at right tackle and played a crucial role in the team’s historic achievement of reaching the ACC title game for the first time. Throughout the season, Miller logged 998 snaps on the offensive line and allowed only two sacks.
Gillotte, on the other hand, was named an All-ACC Academic honoree after the 2022 season and has been recognized as a Red and Black Scholar three times for maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or higher. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in communications in December.
A rising senior, Gillotte had a standout season as a second team All-American and first team All-ACC performer. He recorded an impressive 11.0 sacks, ranking in the top ten nationally, and 14.5 tackles for loss. Gillotte’s contributions to the team were highlighted by his seven tackles in a victory over Virginia.
Both Miller and Gillotte have demonstrated exceptional dedication, excelling both on the field and in the classroom. Their achievements serve as a testament to their hard work and commitment to academic excellence.
