Nyla Harris is a 6’2″ freshman forward from Orlando, Florida. Harris attended Lake Highland Prep, where she was a five-star prospect and ranked as the eighth-best forward in the 2022 class by espnW HoopGurlz. She made her collegiate debut against Cincinnati, scoring five points and grabbing two rebounds.
In her second game, Harris scored 11 points and added six rebounds against IUPUI, making her mark early on in her college career. Throughout her freshman season, she continued to impress, setting new career-highs and leading the team in rebounds.
One of her standout performances came in the win over North Carolina, where Harris earned her second career start and had a career-best 12 rebounds. This performance was the most by a Louisville freshman since Olivia Cochran had 15 in the NCAA Tournament against Northwestern in 2021. She continued to dominate in the game against Syracuse, where she scored a team and career-high 18 points, had a career-high three blocks, and six rebounds.
Harris also set a career high with a team-best 10 rebounds against Syracuse, tied a career high with two assists, and added eight points. In the win over SIUE, she led the team in rebounding with a season-high nine and tied a season-high with two steals and two blocks.
Before attending Louisville, Harris had a successful high school career, helping Lake Highland Prep win a state title as a senior. She averaged 17.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocked shots per game. In her junior year, she helped Lake Highland Prep win the Class 4-A state title in Florida. As a sophomore, Harris was named the MaxPreps Player of the Year after averaging 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She also tallied 20 points, five rebounds, and three blocks to lead Lake Highland Prep to a Florida 4A State Championship.
Overall, Nyla has already made a name for herself in her freshman season at Louisville, proving to be a dominant force on the court. With her impressive high school career and early success at the collegiate level, Harris is a player to watch in the coming years.
