Louisville Dominates Virginia Tech, 34-3
Louisville, Ky. – The Louisville Cardinals delivered an impressive performance on November 4th, defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies with a resounding score of 34-3 at L&N Stadium. It was a game that showcased the Cardinals’ dominance on both sides of the ball, solidifying their standing as a formidable force in the conference.
The Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders, taking control of the game early on. Louisville’s home winning streak extended to ten games, a feat not achieved since 2003-07. Head coach Scott Satterfield was pleased with his team’s performance, stating, “We executed our game plan to perfection and showed great discipline on the field.”
Louisville’s defensive unit continued to shine, as they held Virginia Tech to a mere 140 yards of total offense and 68 yards rushing. This marked the fifth consecutive game in which the Cardinals held their opponents to under 300 yards of total offense and under 100 rushing yards. The defense’s ability to stifle the opposition has been a key factor in Louisville’s success this season.
The Cardinals’ offense was firing on all cylinders as well, with quarterback Jack Plummer leading the charge. Plummer completed 91.7% of his passes, going 11 of 12 for 141 yards, no interceptions, and a 37-yard touchdown. Plummer’s impressive performance tied a school record for completion percentage, a record untouched since 1974. Plummer’s connection with wide receiver Jadon Thompson resulted in the first touchdown of Thompson’s Louisville career.
Running back Isaac Guerendo had a standout performance, rushing for a career-high 146 yards on 11 carries. Guerendo scored three touchdowns, showcasing his versatility and playmaking ability. Guerendo’s performance marked the first time a Louisville running back rushed for three touchdowns in a game since 2020.
Defensively, the Cardinals were led by defensive back Storm Duck, who had seven tackles, the most in his Louisville career. Linebacker TJ Quinn made an impact with an interception and an assisted sack, while linebacker Stephen Herron recorded his first assisted sack of his Louisville career.
The win improves Louisville’s record to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play, marking their best start since 2016. With their dominant performance against Virginia Tech, the Cardinals have solidified themselves as contenders in the conference. The team looks to carry this momentum into their upcoming games and continue their pursuit of success.
Coach Satterfield expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying, “We still have areas to improve upon, but tonight was a great stepping stone for us. I’m proud of our guys, and we’re excited for what lies ahead.”
Louisville will look to build upon this victory as they face upcoming opponents, aiming to maintain their winning streak and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the college football landscape.
