Kentucky to Face Furman in Sunday Afternoon Holiday Game at Rupp Arena

by

The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program is gearing up to host Furman in their upcoming game on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. ET. Returning to Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center for their annual Holiday Game, the Wildcats are hoping for a festive atmosphere as fans are encouraged to wear holiday sweaters. Adding to the festive cheer, Big Blue Santa will also be making an appearance.

The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+, with Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas providing commentary. Fans can also tune in to the play-by-play on UK Sports Network and 630 AM WLAP, with Darren Headrick serving as the voice of the Wildcats.

Currently, the Wildcats hold a 4-7 record for the season, with a 4-2 record at home and 1-1 record at Rupp Arena. Returning home after a tough road game against No. 18/18 Louisville, where they suffered a 73-61 loss, Kentucky is determined to bounce back and secure a win in front of their home crowd.

During the Louisville game, senior guard Maddie Scherr made her return to the court after sitting out the previous two games due to concussion protocol. Scherr displayed her skills, leading the team with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, three steals, and a block. Senior forward Ajae Petty also had an impressive performance, recording her third consecutive double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. This comes after Petty was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, a well-deserved honor for her exceptional season.

Petty has been a standout player for the Wildcats this season, with six double-doubles to her name. She currently ranks second in the conference for both rebounds (110) and field-goal percentage (61.8). The team as a whole has been demonstrating great teamwork, averaging 15.75 assists per game in their last four games since returning home.

In their previous meeting, Kentucky secured a 74-35 victory over Furman at Memorial Coliseum in December 2008. With a 7-4 record for the 2023-24 season, Furman has had a decent performance so far, including 2-3 in road games. They have been averaging 73.8 points per game and 44.8 rebounds per game. Jada Session is their leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.1 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game.

As the game approaches, Big Blue Nation is encouraged to stay updated with the nonconference schedule promotions and game themes. For the Kentucky-Furman game, fans are invited to participate in the Holiday Game theme by wearing their tackiest holiday sweaters. The event will also include the annual Junior Wildcat Club Holiday Party, where junior Wildcats fans can join in on the holiday fun.

Parking for the game will be available in the High Street lots for all fans attending the women’s basketball game. Big Blue Nation is urged to visit UKathletics.com or follow @KentuckyWBB on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for more information on the Kentucky women’s basketball team.
