LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program has added a promising new player to their roster. Head coach Kyra Elzy announced on Friday that Ramiya White, a mobile post player from Louisville, Kentucky, has signed with the team and will join in the fall of 2024.
White is an impressive 6-5 center and is currently ranked as the third-best prospect and top-ranked center in the state of Kentucky in the class of 2024, according to Prep Girls Hoops. She has been a standout player at Butler Traditional High School, where she has earned three letters under head coach Candyce Wheeler. Additionally, White has played on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with coach Richard Jeter.
During the 2022-23 season, White led Butler Traditional with an average of 8.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, shooting an impressive 51.5 percent from the field and 64.2 percent from the free-throw line. Her contributions helped guide her team to a 13-13 record and secure their second consecutive 22nd District Championship win. As a result, White was named to The Courier Journal’s All-Sixth Region First Team.
In the previous season, as a sophomore, White averaged 10.4 points per game on an impressive 58.3 percent shooting from the field, along with 6.1 rebounds per game. She played a pivotal role in Butler Traditional’s 22nd District Championship triumph, leading to her selection to The Courier Journal’s All-Sixth Region Second Team.
White had multiple offers from Power Five programs, but ultimately chose to join the Wildcats at the University of Kentucky.
Coach Elzy had high praise for White, stating, “Our program is overjoyed that Ramiya White is a Wildcat. She is a force to be reckoned with on the boards, which is a huge asset for our program, while she also is a solid shot blocker. For a post player, she can run the floor well, too, while her mobility is impressive for her length and size. Off the court, White is an impressive young lady who will bring a drive and a focus to our locker room. She also exudes a passion for the state of Kentucky, so I am eager for Big Blue Nation to get to see the Bluegrass product on the court next fall.”
The talented center will begin her senior season at Butler Traditional High School on November 28, where she will face off against Cooper High School.
