Postgame Notes: Kentucky Takes on Cincinnati in Women’s Basketball

In a matchup between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Bearcats, it was Cincinnati who emerged victorious with a final score of 65-41. With this win, Cincinnati moves to 3-3 this season, while Kentucky falls to 2-5.

This game marked the 50th season for the University of Kentucky women’s basketball program. Kentucky currently holds a 896-593 all-time record, with just four wins standing between them and the prestigious 900-win milestone.

Kentucky managed to go on a 7-0 run to close the gap to eight points, but they were unable to score in the final two minutes of the half. Cincinnati led 31-20 at halftime.

Maddie Scherr provided a spark for Kentucky in the second half, hitting three 3-pointers in the third quarter alone. Despite her efforts, Cincinnati continued to score consistently. Kentucky struggled in the third quarter, allowing Cincinnati to go on an 11-0 run. The quarter ended with Cincinnati leading 52-31.

Both teams experienced a shooting drought in the fourth quarter. Kentucky went 3-of-13 from the field, with Maddie Scherr hitting her fifth 3-pointer of the game. Cincinnati went 4-of-12 in the quarter. In the end, Cincinnati emerged as the clear winner with a final score of 65-41.

Maddie Scherr had an impressive performance for Kentucky, leading her team with 25 points, including five made 3-pointers. This marked her first game of the season and the fifth game of her career where she led the team in scoring. She also recorded three rebounds, two blocks, and one assist.

Ajae Petty led Kentucky in rebounds, grabbing seven boards. This marked her sixth game of the season and the 17th game of her career where she led the team in this category.
