In a recent announcement by the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, Kentucky women’s tennis has received recognition for the performances of its doubles teams. Partners Lidia Gonzalez and Ellie Eades finished the fall season ranked No. 25, while Makayla Mills and Lizzy Stevens ended at No. 36.
Kentucky head coach Shelley Jaudon expressed her delight at the accomplishment, stating, “This is a testament to the hard work that the entire team has put in this fall.” Jaudon further praised Gonzalez and Eades, who played together throughout the fall season and had a strong showing at both the ITA Regionals and the ITA Fall Nationals.
Meanwhile, Mills and Stevens displayed consistency and improvement as a team, learning what works best for them. Jaudon remarked, “Both teams are fun to watch and are primed for strong spring seasons.”
At the recent University of North Florida Invite, the No. 25-ranked pair of Gonzalez and Eades started strong by defeating their opponents 6-3 in the first set. However, they faced a setback on the second day, suffering a 4-6 defeat. On the other hand, Mills and Stevens experienced a similar pattern, falling 4-6 on the first day but bouncing back on the second day with a 6-2 victory.
The Wildcat doubles pairs have shown promise and will continue to compete in the spring season. The schedule for their upcoming matches will be announced soon.
